Welcome! I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at New York University Abu Dhabi and Global Network Associate Professor of Political Science at Faculty of Arts and Science - Politics, NYU. I received my PhD and MA from the University of Rochester, and my BA from Bogazici University. Prior to joining NYU Abu Dhabi, I was an associate professor in the Government Department at Harvard University.
My research broadly focuses on factors affecting the likelihood of international conflict. More specifically, I study (1) nuclear proliferation and arms control; (2) intentionality in international crises and accidental use of force; (3) sources of uncertainty in crisis interactions; and (4) political economy of the environment and natural disasters. In order to address substantive questions in these areas appropriately, (5) I have introduced novel measures, and developed new statistical methods, some of which can be fruitfully utilized in other areas of international relations and political science. My research on these topics have appeared in journals such as Journal of Politics, International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Studies Quarterly, and Political Analysis.
