Muhammet A. Bas
Associate Professor of Political Science
New York University Abu Dhabi
Welcome! I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at New York University Abu Dhabi. I received my PhD and MA from the University of Rochester, and my BA from Bogazici University. Prior to joining NYUAD, I was an associate professor in the Government Department at Harvard University.
In my research, I study factors affecting the likelihood of international conflict. These include (1) various sources of uncertainty in crisis interactions; (2) emergence and spread of new military technologies, and in particular, nuclear weapons; and (3) changes in the natural environment such as climate change, or natural disasters. In order to address these substantive questions appropriately, I have developed a number of new measures and statistical methods, some of which can be fruitfully utilized in other areas of international relations and political science. My research on these topics have appeared in journals such as International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Studies Quarterly, and Political Analysis.
